With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of two former Meals on Wheels team members.

All things beautiful last forever, kept within sweet memory.

We sadly announce the passing of two long time Volunteers at Brampton Meals on Wheels.

Mr. Ernest Biefer – Mayor Susan Fennell’s Father – passed away on March 21st, 2012 at Peel Manor where he had lived since 2006.   Mr. Biefer was a veteran of the Second World War, where he defended Britain during “the blitz” and participated in the battle of Monte Casino in Italy and the liberation of the Netherlands.  He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defense Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, as well as the War Medal.   Mr. Biefer had a close connection to Brampton Meals on Wheels.  He started as a Volunteer Driver in 1985 and retired in June, 2003.   During that time, he also served as Treasurer from 1998 to 2001.

Mrs. Rose Shaw passed away in Kingston, Ontario on February 29th, 2012.  Mrs. Shaw and her husband Ron were long time residents of Brampton before they moved East to Kingston to be closer to family.  Mrs. Shaw was a dedicated Volunteer Driver, Office Coordinator and contributing Board Member from 1980 to 1996.  Mrs. Shaw loved interacting with the many clients and helping whenever and wherever she could.

There are no perfect words that can be offered to the families during this difficult time but we wish them comfort and strength.  Although the soul has journeyed on, sweet memories endure.
