Volunteers truly make a difference.

Volunteers truly make a difference.

“No one is more cherished in this world than someone

who lightens the burden of another.”

There is no doubt that Canadians are caring.  In a 2007 survey* of Canadian giving, volunteering and participating, it’s clear that we are a nation of people that reaches beyond our families and friends to contribute to others and our communities.  Almost 12.5 million Canadians or 46% of the population aged 15 and over, volunteered during the one year period preceding the survey.  That’s incredible!  In fact, Canadians volunteered almost 2.1 billion hours in 2007 – the equivalent of close to 1.1 million full time jobs. And the good news is that number is growing!

Brampton Meals on Wheels is so fortunate to have a dedicated and friendly team of Volunteers.  We currently have 77 wonderful Volunteer drivers who deliver hot and frozen meals from Monday to Friday to our clients.  Some of our Volunteers deliver once a week, others twice a week, some deliver meals every day during the week (and twice on Friday’s).

Through rain, snow, sleet or sunshine, our Volunteers do their volunteer duties with a smile on their face and a helping hand (despite the rising cost of gas prices).  You could say our Volunteers are just as reliable as the Postal Delivery folks!  On behalf of all our Brampton Meals on Wheels and all our Clients, we would like to thank our Volunteers for their continuing support and commitment – well done!

We would also like to recognize one of our longtime Volunteers – Gerard – for 20 years of exceptional service.  Gerard has been delivering meals every week – Monday to Friday and his clients are so grateful for his service and smiles.  Gerard will be having a little surgery next week and we all wish him a speedy recovery.  We’ll miss you and look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks again.
