Brampton Meals on Wheels welcomes a new Volunteer… and more!

Brampton Meals on Wheels welcomes a new Volunteer… and more!

Volunteers are always welcome here!

We’ve had a lot of Volunteer referrals and inquiries lately and we’d like to thank everyone for their interest in our programs and needs.  Volunteering is truly a rewarding experience for you – and for our clients – so we thank you for your consideration.  We hope to see you back soon!  In the meantime, we would like to welcome Ann Marie M. who just started Volunteering with us this week on Monday.  We hope you enjoyed your first week Ann Marie!

We’d also like to thank Diane M. for her exceptional years of Volunteer service at Brampton Meals on Wheels.  She’s retiring and we wish her all the best.  We also want to send a special GET WELL note to both Gerard R. and Joe M. – long time Volunteers too.   We wish you both a speedy recovery.

Let’s go to the Ex!

It’s been a fabulous summer so far… and it’s not over.  The Canadian National Exhibition – The Ex or The CNE – opened today and what a sunny day it is!  The Ex runs from August 19th to September 5th and it’s jam-packed full of excitement.  If you are planning on going, we hope you have a good time.  And, for the kids, as The Ex winds down, it’s back to school time.  The newspapers are full of flyers and the stores are full of school supplies.   We wish all students a good and productive year.

Celebrate National Radio Day – Saturday, August 20th

National Radio Day celebrates a great invention and communications medium.  The invention of the radio dates back to the late 1800s. A number of inventors played a role in creating this important medium. A number of inventions and discoveries were required to make the radio a reality. This included both transmission and reception methods and technology. The radio somewhat evolved from the telegraph and the telephone, with wireless telegraph directly contributing to its invention.  Celebrating National Radio Day is easy listening. Simply tune into your favourite radio station today. You could also give your local radio personalities a little recognition too.

Happening right here in Brampton this weekend.

At the Rose Theatre, one of the most celebrated musicals of the 20th Century – Cabaret – introduces us to young American writer Cliff Bradshaw as he searches for inspiration in 1920s Berlin. In a whirlwind, Cliff finds himself in a night club bursting with debauchery. There he meets the almost otherworldly Master of Ceremonies and enigmatic seductress Sally Bowles. Timeless, challenging and set on the backdrop of the rising Nazi party, Cabaret combines spectacular musical numbers with a powerful love story.  Contact the Rose Theatre for more details or call 905-874-2800

Come out to the Peel Aboriginal Network’s Yard / Bake Sale on Saturday, August 20th starting at 10am.  The address is 375 Howden Boulevard.  For more details, check out the City of Brampton Events calendar.

On Sunday, August 21st starting at Noon, you can enjoy the Brampton Latin-Festival Family Event.  Latin American displays of culture, live music, food, beer garden, entertainment for the kids and so much more.  Admission is FREE but donations for the Food Bank are welcome.  The event is being held at the Rose Theatre Garden Square.  For more info call 905-460-1346.

On behalf of all of us at Brampton Meals on Wheels, we hope you had a great week and enjoy the weekend.  We’ll be back again next week.
