We’re planning a special Volunteer Appreciation Event in October!

Attention all Brampton Meals on Wheels Volunteer Drivers!

The wonderful team at Brampton Meals on Wheels spearheaded by Karen Humber is working on the venue, menu and other details for the Volunteer Appreciation Event next month.  We are planning on hosting all our Volunteers in October and recognizing their valuable contributions to Brampton Meals on Wheels clients and team.  More details about the event will follow shortly.

Helping Hands!

We’d like to extend a big thanks to the folks at the Peel Manor who helped us out on Tuesday, September 13th when we were short staffed.  Special thanks goes out to Cathy and Christina for their generous support and time.  We appreciate your commitment to helping us get the daily meals out in time to our clients.

Twenty Pieceful years of Quilting.

We are pleased to let you know of a wonderful annual event – The Halton Hills Quilters Guild 20th Anniversary Quilt Show and Sale.  You are invited to attend this wonderful annual event on Friday, October 14th (10am to 5pm) and Saturday, October 15th (10am to 4pm) at Croatian Centre 9118 Winston Churchill Blvd at 5 Side Road in Norval (look for the two big steeples).  Admission is $6 per person. The goal of the Halton Hills Quilter’s Guild is to:

a) Promote the appreciation of the art and craftsmanship of quilting

Get out your lederhosen & dirndl … It’s Oktoberfest!

Oktoberfest is a 16–18 day festival held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, running from late September to the first weekend in October.  This year, it starts on September 17th and runs to October 3rd.  (The festival in Kitchener/Waterloo starts on October 7th to the 15th this year).  It is one of the most famous events in Germany and is the world’s largest fair, with more than 5 million people attending every year. The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, having been held since 1810. Other cities across the world – including Kitchener-Waterloo – hold hugely popular Oktoberfest celebrations, modeled after the Munich event.  For more info on the Kitchener-Waterloo event, visit their website at http://www.oktoberfest.ca/aboutus_history.php

Fact is that only beer which is brewed within the city limits of Munich is allowed to be served in this festival. Upon passing this criteria, a beer is designated Oktoberfest Beer. Oktoberfest Beer is a registered Trademark by the Club of Munich Brewers.  It’s true that large quantities of German beer. Visitors may also enjoy a wide variety of traditional fare such as Hendl (chicken), Schweinebraten (roast pork), Würstl (sausages) along with Brezn (Pretzel), Sauerkraut or Blaukraut (red cabbage) just to name a few.

To everyone heading to Oktoberfest, we wish you good times and please drink responsibly.

From all of us at Brampton Meals on Wheels, we hope you enjoy your day and your weekend.  If you have any suggestions for stories we should include in our Blog, please send us an email to:  bramptonmealsonwheels@bellnet.ca  Thanks for being here.
