February 9th is National Bagel, Chocolate and Sweaters Day!

Yes, February 9 is the day The Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, launching the British invasion in rock and roll.  But what’s more important is that today is National Bagel, Chocolate and Sweater Day! There’s nothing better than a warm sweater out of the dryer…. or a crunchy bagel coming out of the toaster or a chunk of dark chocolate.  Today, we invite you to celebrate all 3!

Let’s start with Sweaters! WWF and Loblaw are asking you to lower your heat today to help conserve energy.   Put on your favourite sweater and turn the heat down a few degrees to help take action against climate change, and work toward a sustainable future.   By rethinking how we use energy and how much we use, we can make a big impact on climate change.  Imagine this – If every Canadian lowered the heat a few degrees this winter, it’d be like taking 300,000 vehicles off the road!  So wear that sweater and make the world a better place.  For more information, check out this website:  http://www.sweaterday.ca/

Just can’t get enough Chocolate! It’s true.  White Chocolate. Dark chocolate. Chocolate with nuts.  Chocolate with strawberries.  Chocolate cake.  Chocolate pudding.  It’s all good and we invite you to have a little today. 

Hundreds of Bagel varieties… made with love. The basic “roll with a hole” design is so distinctive and it’s been around for hundreds of years.  The result is a dense, chewy, doughy interior with a browned and sometimes crisp exterior.   The two most prominent styles of traditional bagel in North America are the Montreal-style bagel and the New York-style bagel.

According to Dempster’s® Bagel Barometer, six out of 10 Canadians eat bagels on a regular basis with nearly a quarter eating these circular delicacies daily or several times a week.   So who loves their bagels the most? It was a close call, but Canada’s most bagel-loving province is Ontario at 66 per cent, closely followed by Atlantic Canada (61%), and Alberta (59%) in third place. The majority of Canadians (90%) also prefer to go toasted, with one-third topping them with cream cheese.
