April showers bring May flowers… ahead of schedule!

We certainly can’t complain about the lovely weather we’ve been having. The trees are already blooming and flowers are blossoming for goodness sake!  Maybe you’ve already started cleaning up your own backyard.  Maybe you’ve got a little extra time to join the Brampton Clean City Committee keep Brampton clean!  The Committee of City Council is made up of concerned citizens who volunteer their time and effort in promoting environmental awareness and a clean community.  The Committee meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Council Committee Room, 4th floor at City Hall.  Learn more about how you can help make Brampton “clean and green” in April by emailing cleancity@brampton.ca or calling 905-874-2828 or visiting the website at:  http://www.brampton.ca/en/residents/Environment/Brampton-Clean-City/Pages/welcome.aspx

 

 

Remembering Vimy Ridge.  Remembering the heroes.

In 2003, the Government of Canada declared April 9 as “Vimy Ridge Day”, to honour and remember the battle that took place at Vimy Ridge, France, in 1917, during the First World War.  On April 9, 1917, the Canadians did what other allied forces had so far failed to do – they took Vimy Ridge. At Vimy, regiments from coast to coast saw action together in a distinctly Canadian triumph, helping create a new and stronger sense of Canadian identity. After Vimy, the Canadian corps never looked back, and its success raised our international stature and earned us a separate signature on the Treaty of Versailles that ended the war.

Today, on land granted to Canada for all time by a grateful France, the Vimy Memorial rises above the now-quiet countryside. It stands as a tribute to all who served their country in battle and paid such a price to help ensure the peace and freedom we enjoy today.  We are truly blessed and we are proud of our Canadian soldiers.

Going wild for National Wildlife Week.

The Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF) is a charitable organization that works with Canadians to make a difference to the kind of legacy we all leave behind … not just for wildlife, but also for our children.  We go wild every April during National Wildlife Week (NWW) which this year is the week of April 10th – 16th.  It includes the birthday date (April 10th) of the late Jack Miner, one of the founders of Canada’s conservation movement.

CWF and it’s 300,000 members and supporters empower Canadians to help protect wild species and the spaces they call home through beautiful publications, award-winning programs and a balanced approach to wildlife issues.
