It’s a short and wonderful week… and TGIF!

Fall is just around the corner.

We certainly hope everyone enjoyed their Labour Day long weekend.  We did!  Even though it was a short week, it was very productive for all of us at Brampton Meals on Wheels.   Our amazing Volunteers came back on Tuesday and have been delivering meals to all our Clients every day since.  And, of course, the kids are back to school and everyone is getting back into the normal routine again.  We encourage everyone to drive safe, especially around the school zones.

We’d like to extend a special Happy Birthday wish to Gerard R. who is celebrating his birthday today and also has 20 years of service excellence with Brampton Meals on Wheels.    Congratulations Gerard!

Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon coming soon!

Gerard and many others will be recognized at the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon which is being planned for some time in October.  We could not do what we do without all our amazing Volunteers so this is our way of saying “thanks”.  We are working hard to put something special together for you all.  Stay tuned. More details to follow shortly.

Happening around town – The Brampton Indie Arts Fest 2011!

It’s been a few years since the festival was in Brampton and we imagine you’ll be as psyched as we are that it’s back at the Rose this September! Artistic Director Friendly Rich Marsella has rounded up the best-of-the-best in underground and experimental musicians, filmmakers, dancers, poets and visual artists. Featuring members of Moneen and Alexisonfire!  The event is September 15th to the 16th (7:30pm to midnight) and the entire event is FREE!  For more details, visit the Rose Theatre website.

Remembering those that were lost and the heroes of 9/11.

This weekend is the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in the US on 9/11, 2001.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those that lost loved ones.  May their memories be eternal always.  We also salute the heroes that responded so bravely to help those in need and risked their own lives to save and rescue others.  The firefighters, the paramedics and doctors, the police departments, every day volunteers all helping with a common purpose.  We also give thanks to those in Canada – particularly Gander, NFLD – who took in strangers from diverted airplanes and showed that a communities goodness is its greatness.   We will never forget that day.

Have a wonderful day and an even better weekend everyone.  We’ll catch up again next week.  And, as always, thanks for being here.

Georgia Mouka, Volunteer Blogger at Brampton Meals on Wheels
