We’re celebrating Meals on Wheels Week 2011.

We’re celebrating Meals on Wheels Week 2011.

Meals on  Wheels Week starts October 3rd!

We have so many reasons to celebrate Meals on Wheels.  Canada’s first Meals on Wheels program began delivering nutritious meals right here in Brampton in 1963. Originally, the local Soroptimist Club supported it and then the Auxiliary group from Peel Memorial Hospital took over. Throughout the years, demand for Meals on Wheels in Brampton grew consistently. In 1975, Brampton Meals on Wheels moved into Peel Manor Home for Seniors on Main Street North under the auspices of the Region of Peel. Peel Manor has been an integral part of our program success because they have provided us with office space and support to effectively manage our operations. Plus, their highly experienced Nutritional and Dietary staff manage our Meal program and oversee the meal preparation in their state-of-the-art kitchens.

So far this year, we have delivered over 30,000 hot and frozen meals to over 300 clients across Brampton. Our team of committed Volunteers rarely missed a day despite some terrible winter storms.  We thank our Volunteers for their continued commitment – without you we couldn’t do what we do.  We also thank our clients for their business and positive feedback.

To celebrate Meals on Wheels week, we are hosting a Volunteer Appreciation & Service Awards Event.  Lunch will be served and Service Awards given to Brampton Meals on Wheels Volunteer Drivers on:

Date: Thursday, October 6th

Time: 1:30pm – 4pm

Place: The Garden (Mandarin) Banquet and Convention Centre, 8 Clipper Court, Brampton (Garden Room #1)

We look forward to seeing you at the Awards Event this Thursday.  Have a great week everyone and thanks again for being here.  We appreciate your support and feedback always.
