Wiarton Willie predicts early spring*

Today is Groundhog Day where our furry friends forecast whether Spring will come early or not.  Folklore has it that if a groundhog sees his shadow on Groundhog Day he’ll flee to his burrow, signaling six more weeks of winter.  (We don’t want that now do we?)  And, if he doesn’t see his shadow, it means Spring is right around the corner.

Well, it’s official.  Both Ontario’s Wiarton Willie and Nova Scotia’s Shubenacadie Sam didn’t see their shadows when they emerged this morning which means one thing – spring is coming early.  Manitoba’s lesser known woodchuck, Winnipeg Willow, is siding with Pennsylvania’s Phil, who is calling for six more weeks of winter.  Well, we don’t care much for Willow or Phil.  We agree with Willie and Sam, right!

We certainly can’t complain about the weather.  We’ve had a handful of cold snaps this winter which is fine by us – it makes it easier to deliver Meals on Wheels to our clients in Brampton.

Well, enjoy what’s left of winter.  Spring is on the way…. yahoo!
